Your Questions
Q. Dear Support4charities - Thank you very much
for your quick response and interest in helping. Please can you
read through my draft letter to sponsors and tell me what you
think, as well as answering a few questions after it. We are
looking for potential sponsors for our fundraising event, an annual
screening in a small theater, with optional donation as an entry
fee. I am new to this and not too sure how to write a letter that
will appeal to possible sponsors.
- Should I suggest a donation price? How much?
- Should I include the "undetermined date" phrase or leave it
unmentioned?
- Is it best to send letter, e-mail, call, or speak in
person?
- In this message, should I include a link to pictures of the event
last year?
- Are the incentives in return enough?
Thank you. Sam - USA

Q. I have just been made redundant from a business I
worked in for many years. I have decided that I would like to try
working for a charity, maybe in fundraising. I don’t know
where to start as the job market is difficult and I don’t
have experience working for charities. Can you advise me please?

Q. I am a senior fundraiser in a large charity.
How do you deal with someone who is a colleague, at the same
hierarchical level, but who is a bully and acts as though she is in
charge. She is extraordinarily patronising – despite the fact
that I am more qualified and have more experience than she does
– and has a way of making me feel really stupid. I am fed up
with this nasty woman, and so are others who she has also bullied.
She has ingratiated herself on top management, who think she is
wonderful – when in fact they have never seen the truly nasty
side of her. What can I do about this situation, when I know
management will not believe me? I am getting to a point where my
stress levels are very high, because of this ongoing onslaught from
this dreadful person. Anisha - London,UK

Q. Our charity received a donation recently from a
group which we have concerns about. They were in our local
newspaper recently and are suspected of fraud, though the court
case is still apparently to be held. Should we keep the donation or
return it? We do, however, really need the money they gave
us. What is your opinion on this sensitive matter
please? Susan - Exeter, UK
